VCT Summer Social at Axelrad in Houston
Event Details
Join fellow alums as we enjoy time together and welcome incoming and returning Vassar students and their families to the Vassar Club of Texas (VCT) community. All alums, current and incoming students, and family members are invited to celebrate our local Vassar community.
We reserved picnic tables, so look for the Vassar banner!
Guests are welcome to bring potluck food items to share. There are also constantly rotating food vendors onsite, and they share a patio with Luigi’s Pizza. The potluck signup sheet is available here – or surprise us – or please just bring your wonderful selves! The Homies HTOWN STREET FOOD truck is on the schedule for August 2nd. Other vendors are updated on their calendar two weeks in advance. Axelrad is an indoor (2,000 square foot) and outdoor venue, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages served in their indoor and outdoor bars. They offer sodas, juices, Saint Arnold root beer, artisan sodas, Topo Chico, mocktails, non-alcoholic beer, seltzers, and Kombucha – as well as over 30 beers, craft beers that change daily, a full bar and ample wine selection, specialty cocktails, rotating seasonal drinks, and ciders.
Axelrad is all about celebrating Houston, being outside, and relaxing. Housed in the premises of a 100-year-old renovated 2,000 square foot building that was a former grocery store built by the Axelrad family in the early 1920s, it boasts an expansive garden and the city’s only hammock grove. While retaining antique touches, they made modern updates, and artists added to the beautiful historic interior – tap handles by Venezuelan-based Maria Rangel, seating by New Living's HTX Made, and textiles by Austin-based Nido. The property is filled with indigenous plants and plenty of seating. Axelrad endeavors to be a hub for creativity, connection, and self-expression – and an open and welcoming community-gathering place for all. Each month they donate profits of a drink to a local organization that is doing work in the community.
Please RSVP by July 25. $$. Casual. Rain or shine.

There is plenty of free parking all around for cars and bikes, including abundant street parking and some onsite (they have a lot catty-corner from their front door, and a gravel lot in the back behind Luigi’s).
Be careful not to park in the HCC lot, which is just north of Axelrad. HCC issues parking tickets.
