Residential life is a key part of the Vassar experience–in fact, about 98% of students live on campus! The houses are self-governing and self-directing, led by a House Team that includes residential life professionals, faculty residents, residential life student staffers, and house officers elected by the residents of the house.
In the Residential Quad, you can see five of Vassar’s nine residential houses: Davison, Jewett, Lathrop, Raymond, and Strong. Three of the remaining houses–Cushing, Josselyn, and Noyes–are located nearby.
Next to the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film, where your tour began, is Ferry House, a co-op house committed to sustainable and environmentally aware cooperative living.
Each Residential House includes a parlor and multipurpose room. Noyes House, designed by the renowned architect Eero Saarinen, features a common area known by students as “the Jetsons lounge” because of its futuristic aesthetic.
Student rooms are furnished with a bed, dresser, desk, and chair. Each house is also equipped with kitchen facilities, parlors, multipurpose rooms for house activities, television rooms, and laundry facilities.
There is no single style of room at Vassar; each Residential House is different. Visit the
Residential Life website to learn more about each House.
Each year, new students are welcomed to campus by their House Team and neighbors in the Residential Houses.
