From her days at Vassar leading zero-waste initiatives to working on environmental legislation in France, Lisa has combined research, advocacy, and education to advance environmental justice. She’ll share insights on her path and the opportunities she sees for the next generation of changemakers. About Lisa: Lisa Smart is the Atlas Zero Waste Fellowships Manager at the Post Landfill Action Network (PLAN), where she helps students and campus leaders design community-driven strategies to reduce campus waste. She developed and leads a nationally recognized return-on-investment course that trains students to evaluate the costs and operational needs of implementing reusable dining systems on their campuses. A leading expert in reuse systems in higher education, Lisa has supported hundreds of students and staff in launching sustainable materials management initiatives on their campuses. Though based in the U.S., Lisa has worked remotely since graduating, traveling to different countries to immerse herself in diverse cultures and explore the connections between people, place, and environment—experiences that shape her approach to building practical, inclusive solutions to campus sustainability challenges.
